The festive season is almost upon us and if some people have already finished wrapping gifts and putting up decorations and the Christmas tree, some of us here in Australia are still going over the Christmas menu rethinking meals and baking awesome desserts in our mind.
You shouldn’t worry too much if you’re late with Christmas shopping though. There are literally millions of people who buy things as late as Christmas Eve. That’s why most retailers are open December 24 and that’s why some retailers extend hours to 8 o’clock into the evening.

But speaking of retailers that go further than that, Woolworths will have stores open until 10 pm on Saturday with trading hours extended to 11 pm for some stores. So late shopping is possible for all those who will still be having foods and goods to check off the list on Christmas Eve.
These following goodies are available to purchase through December 27, but Woolworths is closed on Sunday, which means you have until the 24th including if you want to bring them to the table for Christmas dinner. Otherwise, Monday and Tuesday are alternative options.
Woolworths Select Pavlova Base, $8
Anyone who’s ever tried making a Pavlova knows it is tricky business to get that perfect dessert the way it’s meant to look and taste. It’s also a time-consuming task and that is why it’s ok if you choose to cheat. No one ever has to know and most people won’t tell the difference. And if they do, you can just tell them it’s better than your Pavlova could ever turn out. Lots of people cheat like that all the time.
This Woolworths Select Pavlova Base is 500g, but there should be other sizes available too if you’re in need of a bigger one. Just decorate with cream and sugar, and then add fruits to personalize for an as-should-be Pavlova.
Woolworths Fresh Whole Turkey, $7.50 per kg
It’s not Christmas dinner without turkey roast, and in many Australian families this is one of the most common meal choices for the festive season. Turkey doesn’t always come cheap and is definitely more expensive than chicken, but Woolworths has a pretty good offer this year in the fresh meat department.
They’re offering double points for anything fresh meat, albeit for a limited time only. They have more than one choice of turkey, but their cheapest is the store branded, Australian grown fresh whole turkey that sells at $7.50 per kilogram. The macro free range fresh whole turkey is $10 per kg.
Roasted and Salted Cashews Pack, $9.90
The 750g cashews pack from Woolworths is a good alternative to all the chocolates and the other types of snacks enjoyed thoroughly around this time of year. The unsalted pack is priced the same and the bag contains a mix of locally produced and imported cashews.
Cashews are perfect for making festive, no-bake desserts, especially if you have raw vegans in the family.
Ferrero Rocher 16-pieces Pack, $6.30
On many people’s list of favorite buys, Ferrero Rocher are probably one of the most popular chocolate sweets everywhere in the world, and anywhere in the world they make it to the specially priced category, in this case Woolworths selling a 16-pc box at half the price.
If you love chocolate mix, 300g Mars Celebrations costs $5 at Woolworths, a half-price slash too.
